A Fresh Perspective

Just started reading The Vagina Monologues. It's fabulous. I'm not sure whether guys could appreciate it, but I personally find it fabulous. I've never seen it performed, and I can only imagine how wacky it could be if the right performers were involved.

From Gloria Steinem's Foreword: "On every page, there is the power of saying the unsayable" (xvi).

One Pillow Was Always Cold

The reality was always there -
every night -
inescapable.

One pillow was
always cold,
a painful reminder
of her loneliness.

It saw no warmth,
no love,
no comfort
just the twisting, turning
seering, scalding
stinging of tears
and the silent screaming
of ache exhaled.

Remedy for Misery

he told me the
remedy for misery
is
stale beer and
cheap cigarettes

and I didn't
believe him, but
tried it anyway

I figured he's such
a regular here that
he must know
a little something

turns out
I was wrong

mr. saturday night

my lips,
my tongue,
taste of you

and i thank you
for the lingering sensations
of love

i'm sorry there was a moment
when i couldn't remember
your name

it was the fog of
bourbon and beer that
clouded my careless mind

ireland,
by morning it was clear

no regrets.

Never take away anyone's hope, it may be all they have.
