In the past five days, there was an armed robbery at my bank, the bomb squad cleared a suitcase of explosives from the main gates of campus, two guys were robbed and stabbed to death by random assailants in my subway stop, and a sophomore honor student was fatally shot in the back about a block from my school.

I find it all extremely unsettling.
